Cryolipolysis Machine Scams: 12 Red Flags

This page is not a claim that cheap machines are fake. It is a list of the twelve things that are cheap to verify and expensive to discover later.

12 checksVerify, do not assumeAsk for documents
The fair framing, first. A low price alone does not prove that a machine is unsafe. However, unusually low pricing should prompt the buyer to verify component quality, certification, temperature accuracy, safety systems, warranty and after-sales support.

Red flags 1–2: the temperature claims

  • Fake or unverifiable temperature claims. A number in a brochure that nobody will demonstrate under load.
  • Screen temperature versus actual plate temperature. The display can be software-set; the plate is physical. Ask which one you are being shown.

This is the single most common gap in the category. Why colder is not better.

Red flags 3–4: what the cabinet is hiding

  • Refurbished machines sold as new. Ask for the serial number and its manufacturing date.
  • Old cabinets with replaced touchscreens. A new screen on an old platform is the easiest upgrade to fake and the hardest to spot.

Red flags 5–6: the paperwork

  • Fake CE certificates, or unrelated certificates. A document that does not match the device in front of you.
  • Certification belonging to another model or factory. Common, and only visible if you read the model number on the certificate.

Medical devices in India are regulated under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and the Medical Devices Rules, 2017, with risk-based classes A to D. Verify the documents applicable to the exact model, intended use, manufacturer and importer rather than accepting a generic certificate shown over WhatsApp.

Red flags 7–9: capability that is not there

  • Inflated handle counts. More applicators on the brochure than the cooling system can actually supply.
  • One cooling system split across multiple weak applicators. The count goes up, the per-applicator performance goes down.
  • No automatic safety cut-off. Ask what happens when a sensor fails mid-cycle, then ask to see it.

Red flags 10–12: after you have paid

  • No serial-number documentation. Without it you cannot prove which unit you own.
  • Warranty without written exclusions. A warranty that does not say what it excludes is not a warranty you can rely on.
  • A seller with no engineer, parts or after-sales structure. Ask who attends, where the parts are stocked, and what happens in month fourteen.

The twelve, as a checklist

  • Temperature claim demonstrated under load, not asserted
  • Screen value versus actual plate temperature explained
  • Serial number and manufacturing date provided
  • Cabinet and internals consistent with a new unit
  • Certificate is genuine and readable
  • Certificate names this model, manufacturer and importer
  • Handle count matched by cooling capacity
  • Each applicator independently sensed
  • Automatic safety cut-off demonstrated
  • Serial-number documentation on the invoice
  • Written warranty including its exclusions
  • Named engineer, stocked parts, defined response

Frequently Asked Questions

Are cheap cryolipolysis machines fake?

No - a low price alone does not prove a machine is unsafe. It should prompt you to verify component quality, certification, temperature accuracy, safety systems, warranty and after-sales support before deciding.

How do I check a CE certificate?

Read the model number, manufacturer and importer on the certificate and confirm they match the device you are being quoted. A certificate belonging to another model or factory is one of the most common problems in this market.

What documents are relevant in India?

Medical devices are regulated under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and the Medical Devices Rules, 2017, with risk-based classes A to D. Ask for the documents applicable to the exact model and intended use rather than a generic certificate.

What is the single most common exaggeration?

The temperature claim - specifically the gap between the number on the screen and the actual temperature at the applicator plate under treatment load.
